Drifters Anonymous on Movember
December 1, 2011

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer. There are a few “rules” for Movember, you must start off on Movember 1st with a clean shaven face and you can’t shave it until December 1st!  Some people actually go as far as doing “No Shave November”

One group known as Drifters Anonymous took part in this event at the Belleville Boardroom to help raise funds and awareness for the cause.

Jordan Cailes (driver of a black 180sx) ended up taking home most pathetic moustache! I wouldn’t be embarrassed, he ended up taking home a free beer and a Gillette Fusion Proglide!

I had the time to talk with Miguel Pereira for a small interview on the group.

Ben (AMF): So what exactly are you guys taking part in here?

Miguel: Well This is a Movember event that we are participating in, where all of us are growing out our moustaches to raise funds for prostate cancer.

Ben (AMF): Who is all involved when you say “all of us”?

Miguel: Well, all of our drifters are involved but only a few can come out due to age restrictions with the legal alcohol limit here at the Bellevegas Boardroom, So participating here tonight are Jordan Cailes, Joel Fallaise, Glenn Anderson, Brent Stratton David French and myself.

Ben (AMF):What like, inspired you guys to take part in the event?

Miguel: Well we noticed that this is a really good cause, So we wanted to participate in it and get noticed in the community for not just being drifters, but also for taking part in the community as well.

Ben (AMF): Was it something you guys planned ahead or just sort of a spontaneous thing?

Miguel: Well it was fairly last minute actually, My friend Sarah messaged me and notified me of this event. I thought it would be a great idea for all of us to get involved in so I scrambled to get a hold of everybody, to get them involved.

Ben (AMF): Right on, last minute just like my interview idea!

Ben (AMF): So what do you guys have planned for 2011?

Miguel: Well, our main goal is to participate in CSCS and hopefully be able to pull off a 2nd or 3rd place spot. I would also like to take place in more charities and fund raisers.

Ben (AMF): What was it like having the Stash for a month? Was it embarrassing, did it feel weird?

Miguel: It was actually quite embarrassing. You wouldn’t believe how many people would stare at the stash when they talked to you, so yeah it was kind of an event to keep this stash throughout the whole month.

Ben (AMF): Who do you think had the best stash on the team?

Ben (AMF): I don’t know, I think I’d have to hand that one to Brent with the Handle bars, he did pretty good.

Ben (AMF):So you glad to get rid of it?

Miguel: Oh yeah, as soon as I get home tonight, I am playing some C.O.D and shaving the bugger off!

Ben (AMF): Well thanks for your time and best of luck to you guys next year!

Miguel: Thank you very much we hope to see you guys out there on the track!

I just want to thank everyone for coming out and raising money and awareness for Men’s health! These group of guys here were able to bring in $1529 Molson and Coors Lite were also donating 50 cents for every bottle of beer sold that night and throughout all of Movember!
