Moody Blue: Subaru Impreza WRXTi

The owner of this beautiful Subaru is none other than Jean-Michel, a friend I met back in 2009. At that time his car was already looking great and leading into being a “big” project. Like the GT500 from Gone in 60 Seconds this Subaru is his Eleanor, his unicorn, the one car of his dreams, but the one which did everything to him – good and bad. Fast forward a year and Jean-Michel had stopped counting the number of times he had completely disassembled the engine to start over and make the car running great. It’s been a long 3 years waiting to photograph it and now the chance presented itself. One thing is for certain, Jean-Michel continues to refine his Subaru in search for perfection.

Lets look at the exterior to start. The first thing you notice is the stunning carbon fiber hood that retains only the central air intake scoop from STi model. There is also the presence of a Kaminari carbon fiber intake ducts in place of the traditional fog lights. Adding to the mod list you’ll also notice JDM grille with blue emblem, a blue tow hook, and a custom “DC” intercooler.

On side, the carbon mirrors are discretely black alongside the tinted windows. Unlike most Subarus, Jean-Michel removed the STi Spec C side-skirts for no other reason than to be different.

At back, the imposing original high wing disappears and the factory metal trunk is replaced by a carbon model. The rear bumper has also been swapped to a piece from a Spec-C STi model.

Wheels of choice are Parotech (a French Brand, from France) and are called Black Dragon. Initially the wheels came in black and with a polished stainless lip, but like most things done to this car, things changed. Now the wheels are fully black and highlighted by a discrete blue pin-stripe line. This Subaru wants to be discreet, but effective and it is at that!

Under the hood, the blue and carbon theme continues. The engine block has been completely dismantled and reassembled by Jean-Michel himself providing an enhanced power output of over 400hp without going overboard and a big step from the factory 225hp! The list of modifications to the engine block deserves a book itself as there is little that hasn’t been done. I invite you to take a look at the specs below to know the secrets of this beast from France.

Today, Jean-Michel continues to refine his baby in a never ending quest for the ultimate Subaru in France. At times the task can be daunting making Jean-Michel hate the project (like most of us), but the rewards make the love affair grow time and time again. A true passionate tuner enthusiast who enjoys sharing his pride and knowledge with this Subaru Impreza WRX to STi conversion.

Jean-Michel would like to thank MTK Tuning for all their help in the build and the support thus far.
