#MashUp Car Meet | Presented by MegaSpeed
Michal-Angelo’s Market Place
Markham, Ontario, Canada
September 20th, 2012
The first-ever #MashUp car meet was held on a chilly Thursday evening. Since the post of the Epilogue to The Car Meet Movement… Without a Car Meet, AMF stepped up the plate with the help of our presenting partner MegaSpeed to gather like-minded gear heads in a safe and secure environment without the hassle of police or a few bad apples. Cars began to arrive around 9pm and the first 50 received a #MashUp decal as a sign of thanks for their support.
Amongst the 150+ cars that showed up throughout the night, one of the most notable was the awesome looking Scion FR-S #ProjectFRST (a joint project from Brimell Scion and AMF which debuted at Import Fest 2012). This awesome looking coupe has some great looking bronze 18-inch SSR wheels wrapped in ADVAN AD08 tires, rides on NEO Motorsport coilovers, and has a custom one-off exhaust.
There were also plenty of two-wheel machines scattered about the lot with roughly 40 total that came out in three different groupings. Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda, BMW, Yamaha, they were all there! One thing to note is that throughout the night, there was no police disturbance (although they were around the area), this is in part due to our enforcement of the ZERO Tolerance policy for which every participant adhered to.
By around 11pm many at the #MashUp meet got word from others attending the “other” meet that York Region police had shut things down and kicked people off the lot. Furthermore, numerous cars got pulled over and drivers got slapped with tickets. It is unfortunate that there is a negative stigma to car meets due to a few bad apples in the scene. We will continue to host this meet with the help of our friends at MegaSpeed, although a name change might be in order from #MashUp to #MegaMeet. Post your thoughts on the name of the meet!
A huge thanks go out to Michal-Angelo’s Market Place for letting us use their property for the meet as well as to the entire MegaSpeed staff for their assistance in coordinating! Shout-outs go to Shining Moneky, Rockstar Graphics, ENEOS Motor Oil (Canada), and MT Motorsport for contributing to the “Best in Show” prize pack! Also, notable mentions to TERM416 for coming out strong with an entire row of awesome tuner cars!
